therapy for anxiety
in los gatos, ca

It's important to remember that anxiety in itself isn't completely bad, Without a healthy amount of worry or anxiety, we can get ourselves into dangerous situations. So our work isn't to eliminate anxiety completely, but to develop awareness and tools to become more confident and self-accepting so that you have the ability to choose how you want to act, live, feel and think. Most people with anxiety are often deeply caring, empathetic, and intelligent people. You most likely have a very strong cognitive muscle that we will be able to tap into.

Counseling and therapy can play a crucial role in helping you effectively manage your anxiety symptoms. Going to therapy doesn't mean a person is weak or cannot function. It's a strong sign that a person is intelligent, humble, open, and proactive.

Traditional talk therapy works by helping you learn to identify what's really going on so that a transformation of thoughts and feelings can occur. Instead of being relentlessly self-critical and looking for what could go wrong, you can instead manage your thoughts, seek solutions, and learn to guide yourself through anxious feelings.

Instead of being afraid of worst-case scenarios, you may be able to embrace what's happening and say something like, "I have anxiety, and that's OK. My anxiety doesn't make me a bad person. It's just how my body and mind react to situations, and I can deal with it."

Because I am a somatic therapist, I bring an effective, holistic approach to anxiety treatment that incorporates mindfulness-based therapy techniques and teaches you from the inside out how to slow down, be with, and gain confidence in your innate intelligence.

Anxiety will tell you that everyone else has figured it / life out, so why can't you. And I'm here to help you drop hurtful comparisons.

Anxiety might ask you to push beyond your energy levels. And I'm here to help you nurture and discover your true capacities.

Anxiety may isolate you, or tell you that people only like you for what you can do. And I'm here help you practice connecting in real-time so that relationships can be meaningful and fulfilling again.

Will it require some work on your part? Yes, it will. We will discuss difficult experiences from your life and relevant family history? You bet we will.

Therapy is a collaborative process. You show up with the wisdom of your life. I'll bring expertise with effective anxiety therapy tools.

Have a teen that says they are too busy for therapy, or they don't feel they need it? If you can help them to get in just one session with me, that's often all it takes to get them on board.

I look forward to working together toward a life of increased ease, meaning and continued growth.

ready to live beyond anxiety?

It's true that modern living is particularly adept at making you feel behind, inadequate, lonely and just plain not good enough.

Exceptionally high expectations for academic and professional success contribute significantly. As does the competitive nature of workplace dynamics, paired with job / economic uncertainties.

The rapid evolution of technology has brought about an always-on culture where you are constantly connected, exposed to a barrage of information, and expected to live on call, 24 hours a day. This continuous stream can exacerbate anxiety by creating a sense of urgency and a fear of missing out. This is especially true for our teens.

For high schoolers, juggling AP exams, sports, part-time jobs, hours of homework, SATs, and extracurriculars while maintaining sky-high GPAs for college admissions can take its toll. Add on that adolescence itself is a period of significant physical, emotional, and social change, making teens particularly vulnerable to stress and anxiety, and you've got the perfect recipe for anxiety and burnout. And that doesn't even include TikTok, SnapChat, and all the other social media that plays a pivotal role as well, exposing teens to constant comparison, cyberbullying, and the pressure to maintain a curated online image.

It's no wonder that adults and teens alike walk around with layers of anxiety and stress baked right into who they are, or who they are becoming. And we didn't even touch on biological, historical, or medical factors. But it doesn't have to be so. And finding the right anxiety therapist can help.

why is anxiety so rampant?

Anxiety, worry, stress- it's part of being a productive adult in our society, right? I'm not sure how many people can really escape parenting / the workplace / our relationships without a number of sleepless nights, imagining worst-case scenarios, and that sense of living on your mental edge without any relief in sight. We've all been there.

And yet, if you are experiencing this day after day, week after week, it starts to take toll on your ability to perform at work, your closest relationships start to feel untenable, and your health can suffer pretty severely. Your persistent feelings of self-doubt and the fear of not measuring up can become overwhelming and debilitating. You feel extremely uncomfortable inside and struggle with significant self-criticism.

You might be one of those that is excellent at hiding it, and to the outside observer you may appear to excel and even be admired for your ability to handle anything. While for some anxiety can lead to isolation, yours might not. You may have a successful career, participate in many volunteer or community activities and have strong personal relationships. Yet behind this facade, you are still plagued by persistent thoughts of worry, fear and criticism, and feel constantly on edge. With impossible expectations, you are afraid that one misstep may lead to losing it all.

No matter how it looks on the outside, anxiety can wreak havoc on your  inner life- thoughts, feelings, and your sense of self. It leaves you feeling alone, afraid and on the brink. If this sounds like you, anxiety counseling can help.
